Dog Abuse Hotline

I’ve been seeing on social media, people asking what they should do about dog abuse they just witnessed. First, you want to call your local law enforcement. Make sure to give them details about the abuse, such as, place, type of abuse, and if it is happening right now. If you can not get through to your local police then try the following hot lines.

Humane Society of the United States Dog Fighting Hotline – 1-800-847-4787  (24/7)  They handle dog fighting and cockfighting.

PETA Animal Cruelty Hotline – 1-757-622-7382  (24/7)  They handle all animals.

We Tip Hotline – 1-800-782-7463  (24/7)  They handle all animals.

Humane Society of the United States Puppy Mill Tip Line – 1-877-645-5847  (24/7)  They handle dogs and puppies.

If you know of any other hot lines or organizations that help fight animal cruelty please let us know so that we can update this post.

Now, let’s cover some of the types of dog abuse that you might see.

Dog Fightingdog-fightingPeople will make dogs fight to the death, and bet on which dog will win. Fighting dogs are often kept in unclean environments with little food and water.

Beating and Torturebeating-and-tortureSome people with anger issues will take their anger out on their dog. They will hit, kick, choke, and throw the dog. Sometimes the owner will use a knife on the dog or shoot the dog and sometimes set the dog on fire.

Puppy Mills:puppy-mills Dogs are kept in unclean, crowded cages. They don’t get enough food and water or veterinarian care. The dogs are bred repeatedly. The owner’s main concern is making money.

Neglect:  neglectThe dog is left without food and water in an unclean environment. The dog usually doesn’t have a proper shelter. The owner doesn’t bring the dog to the veterinarian for shots or regular checkups.

HoardinghoardingUsually done by a kind-hearted person that wants to help strays but doesn’t have the proper knowledge to take care of multiple animals.

Please, please if you see any form of animal abuse, report it as soon as you can!

  1. It makes me extremely sad and angry how animals are mistreated.
When i lived in mexico i was part of a volunteer group to rescue animals, most of the time cats and dogs, it was terrifying to find these animals….because we found them dying, with chains in their necks, injuries you cant imagine the pain they were coping with…
I hate the people that hurt them, i had a rescued pitbull, taken out of fighting , he had scars everywhere and people wanted to put him down because he was -aggressive-, they couldn’t be more wrong, he was one of the sweetest gentlest animal i ever had and i will always remember.
Sorry for the long rant, but Im glad you are spreading awareness and sources to report abuse cases. Thank you!

    1. Thank you for the part you played in saving abused animals. I am glad that you were able to save your pit bull. A lot of people think that because a dog was abused that it will be aggressive. But I think that the abused dogs tend to be the most loving, loyal, gentle dogs, because they are greatful for the second chance at life.

  2. Animal abuse is so heartbreaking. I hope this helps more people stand up against animal abuse and help animals in need when they are being abused. Thanks for the info!

    1. Love the two that you have and maybe some time in the future you will be able to adopt another one. In the mean time, please watch out for animal abuse and report it if you see it. Be their voice!

  3. Any kind of abuse of another living creature is wrong and we need to stand up to stop this kind of abuse. Thank you for posting this as a way of highlighting the problem. In the UK we have the RSPCA to help and their number is 0300 123 4999 if anyone see this in the UK. Thanks for posting on such an important point. Keep up the good work. Gail
